2014 Honda Odyssey sucks it up for our editor
When we heard that the 2014 Honda Odyssey would be getting the world's first in-car vacuum,
we had to check this thing out for ourselves. Called HondaVAC, this
tidy little sucker was co-developed with Shop-Vac, and it's actually
pretty neat. It comes standard on Odyssey's top-trim Touring Elite model
and can be fitted with a wide range of attachments all housed in the
cargo area. Honda notes
that the vacuum hose is long enough to reach surfaces in every part of
the Odyssey's cabin, and that it will even run for a full eight minutes
after the vehicle is turned off.
Good thing, then, that Honda chose to show off the new 2014 Odyssey here at the New York Auto Show, as Autoblog west coast editor Michael Harley clumsily managed to spill some snacks all over the cargo area (we tried to convince him to give himself a hickey, but he declined on grounds that his wife might not let him attend any more auto shows). Take a look at the video below

A field test of Structure Sensor's 3D scanning for mobile devices
When Occipital launched its Kickstarter campaign for a portable 3D
sensor for mobile devices, it saw the project fully funded within a few
hours. Knowing we had to see this gadget in action, Gizmag met with
co-founder Vikas Reddy after Structure Sensor had become the 50th
Kickstarter project to reach the million-dollar mark. Our goal was to
test the gadget that has its backers so eager to test one too.

Hamilton gets two-faced with Jazzmaster Face 2 Face timepiece
http://www.gizmag.com/hamilton-jazzmaster-face-2-face/29478/In a fashion-obsessed world, no single timepiece works for every possible scenario. Perhaps that's why Hamilton Watches designed a timepiece with two distinct looks and personalities. The new Jazzmaster Face 2 Face combines two separate dials in a single watch.
Hamilton, which credits itself with world firsts like the first electric watch and first LED digital watch, says that it breaks "new watchmaking ground" once again. We're always skeptical of "world first" claims without third party verification, but we will admit that we expect any watch to have a single face and a plain metal plate in back.
The Jazzmaster Face 2 Face has a sporty "boy racer" chronograph face on one side of its case and a simpler, three-hand timekeeper face on the other side. The entire case rotates within an outer frame, allowing the user to quickly switch looks.
Audi revs up promotion of clean diesel technology
Audi is really pushing the idea that when it comes to fuel economy,
clean diesel technology is a lot more practical than most people think −
even if it is a bit more costly upfront for the purchase.
To promote the rollout of the all-new 2014 A6 TDI, A7 TDI and Q5 TDI, the luxury carmaker has introduced three new television spots touting the vehicles’ increased performance and range.
The ads include a 60-second television spot called “The Station” (below) and two new 15-second spots, “Future” and “Range,” which aim to show drivers the benefits of clean diesel technology including increased performance and range.
The new Audi A6, A7 and Q5 TDI models, which now join the A8 L and Q7 as part of the carmaker’s TDI line-up, all make the idea of diesel cars
http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/audi-revs-up-promotion-of-clean-diesel-technology-with-all-new-models/ a whole lot more appealing than it’s been in the past, which I can definitely attest to following my recent test drive of the vehicles in the Washington D.C. area.
Audi has been at the forefront of the clean diesel movement since the introduction of its TDI technology in the U.S. in 2009. Over the past four years, the carmaker has sold more than 26,000 Audi TDI vehicles in the U.S.

Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 edition: tablet
In the ongoing battle for the tablet market, Samsung’s hasn’t had the same luck towering over Apple that it’s had in the smartphone world, despite turning out several solid models that offer features that aren’t in the iPad.http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-10-01/business/42557059_1_tablet-market-galaxy-note-samsung-s
Your Laptop in 2018: The Future of Computing
Think back to the laptop you had in 2008. It probably doesn’t look
too different from what you’re using today. Sure, your current notebook
is lighter than the brick you lugged around five years ago, and it’s
running Mountain Lion or Windows 8 rather than Vista or Leopard, but
it’s still a clamshell laptop with the same basic functionality.
Fast-forward to 2018, and your computing experience will be radically
different — but familiar, too.
Rather than phasing out the traditional laptop, manufacturers are shaping future PCs around emerging trends. For instance, the prominence of mobile devices has spawned thinner Ultrabook designs and detachable tablet-laptop hybrids. Notebooks will also benefit from perceptual computing breakthroughs that will push eye and motion control into the mainstream. Imagine looking at an app to open it or simply glancing up or down to scroll.

Surface 2 and Pro 2 Close To Selling Out? Pull the Other One, Microsoft
There’s a distinct air of deja-vu about Microsoft’s recent Surface Tablet Tweet.
If word of the Redmond software giant is anything to go by, the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 Tablets are about to become a lot harder to get hold of. According to Microsoft, both units are already in short supply which of course suggests demand has been exceptional.
“Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are close to selling out. All those buyers are gonna need apps. Your move:http://developer.microsoft.com” read the Tweet from the firm’s developers account that appeared on Friday.
Alibaba Invests in a Search Engine for Apps
The Chinese Internet company Alibaba Group wears a number of hats, with commerce sites, a payment system and a search engine.
It is also a tech investor.
Quixey, a search engine for apps, announced on Thursday that it had raised a $50 million financing round led by Alibaba. The deal shows the Chinese company expanding its influence in Silicon Valley, many miles away from its home market.
The Alibaba name lends some prominence to Quixey. Alibaba is also getting a seat on the board, according to Tomer Kagan, Quixey’s chief executive and co-founder.
“They’ve been more founder-friendly than almost any V.C. I’ve ever met,” Mr. Kagan said in an interview, using a shorthand for venture capitalist. “They really believe in the founders having a strong say on the board and a strong say in the company.”

Apple Says Small Fraction Of iMessage Users Having Issues And It’s Working On A Fix
Over the last few days, we’ve been hearing reports of people having issues with iMessages, on both the receiving and sending ends. The complaints have grown in volume and frequency and we began inquiring about the issue yesterday.
Today, Apple tells us that the issue is affecting a ‘fraction of a percent’ of iMessage users, though that appears to include a big chunk of our timeline, anecdotally. Apple also says that it’s working on a fix for these issues that will come in a future update. Apple fixes bugs and issues on a ‘point release’ basis as it needs to, pushing out software updates that may have no other major changes.
